I hate PvP so much, but honestly the way I can have a little bit of fun with this mode is to challenge myself to get the most amount of plunder I can each match. Then (if players leave me to my own devices) I try to die by the storm when I can't find anymore chests or monsters, rinse and repeat. At first it was so daunting and I was depressed I wouldn't be able to stomach making it to 40. But as of today I'm Renown 26 and plan to at least try to get 40 by next weekend. If I can do it anyone can!
Thank you for posting this. It's good to know players like myself dislike PVP. My experience with several instances: One player called me a dummy when I told them to let me finish my quest first. I was level 1 and didn't get a chance to collect plunder yet. I'm level 13 and hopefully I'll get to 40 by the time this is over, but it's unlikely with my luck getting the toxic bullies.
Thank you for this excellent guide, I don't like pvp and I'm bad in it .but enjoy the Plunderstorm , hopefully geting to renown 40. Its slow but fun , trying to get the quest done and getting as much plunder as possible if lucky enough to avoid other players is what I do .
Words cannot express how much I LOATHE this event. First off, I am elderly and slow. Hands down I am the worst at pvp which is why I never do it, except for events. But at least regular pvp gives you the option to play a ranged/caster. I have played since vanilla and never had a melee alt because I am that bad at it. In addition, pvp events like this brings out the worst in bullies and mean spirited people. I have mentioned before on other platforms and glad you said it here, there should be a safe starting period, give us useless people a chance to do the q. I can't wait for this to be done, I am at lvl 32 now, have not killed one single other player, and when I hit 40 I'm out of here! Leave the gankers to kill each other.
This article very accurately sums up how I approached Plunderstorm and found some fun with it, even as a mostly solo PVE player who has literally zero interest in PVP. I say approached, past tense, because I hit renown 40 after about 20 hours over a week and don't plan to touch it again as-is.I wouldn't call myself a scaredy cat though because I did use a different strategy at the end. Started off just trying to get the quest done, have at least my toolbar filled with abilities and items, collect plunder up to level 5-7 (500-1000 plunder), then go run over to Pieces of Hate and pick up as many scraps until I got caught in the PVP fray and tried to survive as long as possible ... usually not very long but I did get a kill here and there (max ever was 3 kills, lol). Had no expectation to "win" ever, but it was a bit of its own storm to die in with everyone gathering there. Not a bad way to go.Only real wish was that they naturally made the match start more slowly. I would suggest doing that with a combination of a) more lucrative spots to drop at the edge of the map and/or b) less people per match for solos. In duos, you are paired up and already cuts the amount of initial contention in half due to it being just 30 teams. So why not just start solo matches with 30-40 people and not 60? That would let people spread out more for the first couple minutes, more opportunities to create a build and get the quest done, before things get contentious (or at least less likely to be so early). If the map was more populated at the edges it would also be spread out and consumed by the first round or so of the storm so wouldn't affect build bloat later on in the match.Small tweaks like that would go a long way to smooth out the initial part of the match that seems to frustrate so many people. If you smoothed that rough edge, it would fix everything but would one of the major complaints.
On the mechano-hog, you can drop it, pick up whatever item you just had (likely a barrel) and ride away still carrying a full arsenal.
I absolutely am terrified of PvP. The "Long, Strange Trip" achievement was TORTURE for me, but I got it! For new players, you USED to have to do "School of Hard Knocks" as part of the achieve. PvEers in PvP was awful for everyone. It has since been REMOVED from the achieve, as so many people complained about it.Folks who mock and torment those of us who are not PvPers, you truly don't get WoW. That's not what this game is about -- it's about having fun, whatever that fun looks like to you. I like working together as a team, not as a solo player against others. Buuuut ... the devs keep putting loot in the game that PvEers can use, or attach things to PvP, so I keep heading back into the fray. After reading this, I tried some of the methods, and this is genius. It makes it so much easier to just get in, get what I need to get done, and offer myself to another player. Usually I try to find a lower-level character, and often they are also a PvEer. Yay! More loot for everyone! I will also say, playing when the kiddos are in school or have gone to bed makes it SO much easier. Just remember school release times for your region. lol
